Dax Shepard Says He’ll Pay to Freeze Daughter’s Eggs When She Turns 18

Dax Shepard is already thinking far ahead when it comes to his daughter’s future—and even a possible birthday gift years from now.

The Parenthood alum revealed that he has offered to pay for his youngest daughter Delta Shepard, 11, to freeze her eggs when she turns 18. Dax shares Delta, as well as older daughter Lincoln, 12, with his wife, Kristen Bell.

Speaking on the Jan. 5 episode of his podcast Armchair Expert, the 51-year-old explained that the conversation started when Delta said she wants to have a baby someday.

“She said she wants to have a baby,” Dax shared. Wanting to be supportive, he asked her when she thought that might happen. While Delta initially mentioned 18, Dax offered his own guess: somewhere between ages 35 and 45.

That estimate did not go over well.

“She was like, ‘No, that’s crazy! That’s too old,’” he joked, noting that to an 11-year-old, those ages sound ancient. Delta, he said, imagines becoming a mom in her mid-20s.

Still, Dax wanted to give her options.

“I said, ‘If you want to, we’ll freeze your eggs when you’re 18. I’ll pay for you to get your eggs frozen so you don’t have to think about it,’” he explained.

While his cohost Monica Padman called the idea “lovely,” Dax admitted his daughter was not thrilled with his timeline—at least for now.

The conversation fits right in with how Dax and Kristen approach parenting: openly and honestly, even when topics are awkward.

In a previous interview, Kristen shared that their kids have already asked questions about how babies are made. When one child asked, Dax began explaining the science behind it—only for the kid to walk away within seconds because she was bored.

“So it’s worked in our favor,” Kristen joked, adding that they plan to keep being honest as long as they can.

Despite the challenges, Kristen says she and Dax have made a promise never to lie to their daughters.

“It requires a lot of brain power,” she admitted, explaining that parents constantly have to decide what’s age-appropriate without being frightening. Still, the couple hopes their openness teaches their kids the value of honesty—even if it leads to uncomfortable moments along the way.
