Christina Hodson Tapped to Write DC Studios’ ‘The Brave and the Bold’ Batman Movie

Christina Hodson, the screenwriter known for her work on major franchise and action films, is writing The Brave and the Bold, DC Studios’ upcoming Batman movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The project centers on Batman and Robin, with a major twist: Robin will be Damian Wayne, Batman’s biological son. In DC Comics lore, Damian is a highly trained and often violent child raised by assassins before discovering his connection to the Dark Knight. The story focuses on Batman learning he has a son — and grappling with the consequences of Damian’s brutal upbringing.

The status of the script remains unclear. Sources say Hodson has been working on the project since at least the fall, but a finished draft is still some time away. DC Studios declined to comment on her involvement, and insiders stress that the studio is taking a careful, deliberate approach to development.

A Long Road to the Script

The Brave and the Bold was first announced in 2023 as part of the new DC Studios slate unveiled by studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. At the time, Andy Muschietti, who previously directed The Flash, was attached to develop and direct the film.

However, finding the right writer and creative angle proved challenging. Muschietti is still associated with the project, but his eventual role will depend on factors like scheduling and availability. His profile has risen following the strong performance of Welcome to Derry, HBO’s It prequel series, which is already developing a second season despite not yet being officially renewed.

Balancing Two Batmen

DC Studios is also navigating another complication: filmmaker Matt Reeves is currently in preproduction on a separate Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson. That project exists in its own creative universe, and DC is reportedly in no rush to release another Batman film too quickly.

Studio executives want The Brave and the Bold to clearly stand apart in tone and visual style from Reeves’ darker, grounded Batman films, regardless of when it ultimately reaches theaters.

Hodson’s DC Track Record

Hodson is well-regarded within the industry for delivering strong, character-driven scripts. She has previously worked in Gotham City territory, having written a Batman Beyond script that was praised internally at DC but never produced.

Her DC résumé also includes writing The Flash with Muschietti and the Margot Robbie-led Birds of Prey. Outside of DC, she earned acclaim for Bumblebee, the 2018 Transformers spin-off.

With Hodson now officially on board, The Brave and the Bold appears to be gaining creative momentum — even if DC Studios is taking its time before unveiling the next chapter of Batman’s cinematic future.
