Céline Dion Honors Late Husband René Angélil on 10th Anniversary of His Death

Céline Dion is reflecting on the enduring love she shared with her late husband, René Angélil, as she marks 10 years since his passing.

On Wednesday, Jan. 14, the 57-year-old singer shared a deeply emotional tribute on Instagram in memory of Angélil, who died of throat cancer in 2016. Alongside a photo of a sunlit portrait of him resting on a piano, Dion posted a heartfelt message written together with their three sons — René-Charles, 24, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 15.

“Mon amour, ten years without you feels like just a day, and yet each day feels like a decade,” the message began. “Ten years without your caress, and yet every day I feel your touch.”

The statement continued by acknowledging the pain of loss while honoring the strength Angélil instilled in his family. “We miss you more than we can bear, but you taught us to be strong,” it read. “We love you more, every day and every year.”

Dion and Angélil’s love story began when she was just 12 years old and auditioned for him. He later became her manager and mentor, helping guide her career. Their relationship turned romantic years later, with their first official date taking place when Dion was 19. The couple kept their relationship private until they became engaged in 1993.

They married on Dec. 17, 1994, in an elaborate ceremony at Montréal’s Notre-Dame Basilica. Their first son, René-Charles, was born in January 2001, followed by twins Nelson and Eddy in May 2010.

Angélil passed away on Jan. 14, 2016, just two days before what would have been his 74th birthday. At the time, his representative confirmed he died peacefully at his Las Vegas home after a long battle with cancer.

Dion has continued to publicly honor her husband’s memory over the years. In January 2025, she paid tribute to him on what would have been his 83rd birthday, writing that there is “not a day that we aren’t celebrating life with you.”

“You are a part of us every day in the memories we cherish,” she shared then. Reflecting on old photos and videos, Dion added that hearing his voice and seeing his gestures keeps his spirit alive. “We celebrate you always. Happy Birthday René, Notre Amour.”

A decade after his passing, Dion’s words make clear that Angélil’s presence remains deeply felt — not only as the love of her life, but as a guiding force for their family.
