An AFP video released on Friday showed the Oscar-winning actor speaking with aid workers and touring the border area. Local reports said Jolie went to the crossing to observe the conditions of injured Palestinians who have been transferred to Egypt for medical treatment.
According to TRT World, Jolie spoke with members of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, as well as truck drivers who are transporting humanitarian aid toward Gaza. One Red Crescent volunteer told her that thousands of aid trucks are currently waiting at the border, unable to cross despite the urgent need for supplies.
The Rafah Crossing is the only border point between Egypt and Gaza and has become a critical route for humanitarian assistance. It has played a major role in aid deliveries since Israel’s military response to the October 7, 2023 attacks. Although a ceasefire is now in place, humanitarian groups say the need for food, medicine, and shelter remains extreme.
More than 70,000 people have reportedly been killed since the Israel-Hamas war began over two years ago, according to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry. Large parts of the territory have been destroyed, leaving many residents displaced and dependent on aid.
Jolie is best known for her acting career, with films including Girl, Interrupted, Tomb Raider and Mr & Mrs. Smith. Beyond Hollywood, she is also widely recognized for her humanitarian work. As a former Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Jolie has spent years visiting refugee camps and conflict zones around the world, drawing attention to the suffering of civilians caught in war.
