Stranger Things Finale Episode Draws One of the Show’s Lowest Fan Scores

The most recent episode of Stranger Things has landed with a thud among fans, earning one of the lowest audience ratings in the show’s history.

Volume two of the final season of Stranger Things dropped on Christmas Day, bringing episodes five through seven and pushing the story toward its long-awaited end. The new chapters continue the final showdown in Hawkins against the villain Vecna, played by Jamie Campbell Bower.

While the previous batch of episodes was widely praised, the reaction to volume two’s finale has been far more mixed. The closing chapter, Chapter Seven: The Bridge, has a fan score of 6.7 out of 10 on IMDb, based on around 22,000 votes. That makes it the second lowest-rated episode of the entire series.

Only one episode ranks lower: 2017’s The Lost Sister, which currently sits at 6 out of 10. By contrast, the show’s highest-rated episode remains season four’s Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab, highlighting just how divided fan opinion has become.

The overall response to the series has also dipped. On Rotten Tomatoes, Stranger Things now holds a 67% audience score — a noticeable drop from the 89% audience rating that season four once enjoyed. Critics, however, have been more forgiving, giving the show an 84% “fresh” rating.

Despite the lukewarm fan reaction, anticipation remains high for the very end. The two-hour final episode of Stranger Things is set to arrive on December 31 on Netflix, bringing one of television’s biggest sci-fi hits to a close.
