Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross Split After Nine Years Together

Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross have ended their relationship after nine years together.

In a joint statement, the former couple said that while the split is difficult, their focus remains on their family. “Although it’s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible,” they shared.

The director-actor, 69, and the screenwriter, 35, quietly separated about a year ago. They will continue to co-parent their 8-year-old son, Lars.

Gibson and Ross met through mutual friends in 2014 and began dating soon after. They welcomed Lars in 2017, just days before Gibson earned a Best Director Oscar nomination for Hacksaw Ridge. At the time, Gibson spoke about the moment with joy, saying there was nothing more exciting than hearing the nominations announced while holding his newborn son.

Lars is Gibson’s youngest child. He also has eight older children from previous relationships. With his ex-wife Robyn Moore, Gibson shares daughter Hannah and six adult sons — Christian, Edward, William, Louis, Milo, and Thomas. He also has a 16-year-old daughter, Lucia, with songwriter and pianist Oksana Grigorieva, whom he split from in 2010.

Despite their separation, Gibson and Ross have continued to appear supportive of family life. In September 2024, Gibson attended the Los Angeles premiere of his film Monster Summer with his two youngest children, Lucia and Lars, joining him on the red carpet.

The past year has also brought major challenges. In January 2025, Gibson and Ross lost their Malibu home in the Los Angeles wildfires. Gibson was out of town working at the time, but his family and their animals were safely evacuated. Speaking afterward on Elizabeth Vargas Reports, Gibson said the most important thing was that his loved ones were safe and unharmed.

Professionally, Gibson remains busy. He is currently working on The Resurrection of the Christ, the follow-up to his 2004 hit The Passion of the Christ. The new project will be released in two parts, with the first scheduled to arrive in theaters on Good Friday, March 26, 2027.

While Gibson and Ross are moving forward separately, both have made it clear that their shared priority is raising their son together and maintaining stability for their family.
