During a press conference on Monday morning, Chris Nanos, the sheriff of Pima County Sheriff's Department, said investigators found “concerning” evidence inside Nancy’s Tucson-area home. Based on what they discovered, law enforcement now considers the residence a possible crime scene.
While Nanos did not reveal specific details about what investigators found, he made it clear that the case has taken a serious turn.
“We believe now, after we process that crime scene, that we do, in fact, have a crime scene, that we do, in fact have a crime, and we’re asking the community’s help,” Nanos said.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on Sunday afternoon. According to authorities, she was last seen Saturday night at her home. Since then, multiple law enforcement agencies have been searching the surrounding area, but so far, there have been no confirmed sightings or leads.
Sheriff Nanos also confirmed that homicide detectives are now assisting in the investigation, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
Savannah Guthrie, a longtime anchor on NBC’s TODAY, shared a heartfelt statement on Sunday as the search intensified.
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information — no matter how small it may seem — to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department as the investigation continues.
