Sabrina Carpenter Faces Backlash for Using Live Bird During Grammys 2026 Performance

Sabrina Carpenter is facing criticism after using a live bird during her performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The 26-year-old singer took the stage Sunday night in Los Angeles, delivering an airport-themed performance inside the Crypto.com Arena. While the show drew attention for its dramatic visuals, it also sparked backlash from animal rights activists.

Shortly after the performance aired, the activist group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) condemned Carpenter for bringing a live white dove on stage.

“Did Sabrina Carpenter really just bring a bird on stage in 2026?!” PETA wrote on social media, calling the move “childlike behavior” and urging artists to leave animals out of awards shows. In another post, the group accused the singer of being “cruel,” warning that bright lights, loud noise, and handling can cause fear and distress for birds.

During the performance, Carpenter appeared seated on a silver airplane prop that lifted her into the air. As she reached the top, she pulled out a white dove, which briefly flapped in her hands as she looked out at the audience before the song ended.

The performance featured her song Manchild, which has become one of her most talked-about releases. Despite the controversy, Carpenter had a strong night overall at the Grammys.

She earned six nominations in total. “Manchild” was nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Music Video. Her album Man's Best Friend also received major recognition, landing nominations for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.

Carpenter, who is already a two-time Grammy winner, has not publicly responded to PETA’s criticism as of now.
