In a new cover interview with Cosmopolitan, published on Thursday, Jan. 29, the Euphoria actress talked about her long-term romance with her former fiancé, Jonathan Davino.
Sweeney said the relationship lasted for about seven and a half years, covering most of her 20s. She explained that she never spoke about it publicly because she wanted to keep some parts of her life just for herself.
“I’m a public person, but I’m still young and figuring out love,” she said. “That’s hard to do when millions of people have opinions about your life.”
Sweeney and Davino were first linked in 2018 and got engaged in 2022. In March 2025, it was confirmed that they had ended their engagement.
The actress said that for many years she focused mainly on her career. Now, she wants to experience life and love, but doing that in the public eye is difficult. She also shared that dating after the breakup has not been easy, joking that rumors start anytime she is seen near a single man.
She admitted that the months after the split were very emotional. “I spent a few months just crying,” she said, adding that she has never dated before or used dating apps. Because of her fame, meeting someone casually, like at a bar, is not simple for her. She also said she struggles with being alone.
After the breakup, a source said Sweeney felt relieved and confident about her decision. While her busy work schedule might overwhelm others, she is happy to focus on her career. The source added that what truly overwhelmed her before was the relationship and the wedding, which no longer felt right.
Another source later claimed that Sweeney was casually seeing music executive Scooter Braun. She was also spotted meeting Davino again in April and November 2025. However, a source said she had moved on and only wanted to remain on friendly terms with him.
Right now, Sweeney is focused on her growing career and navigating her personal life at her own pace.
