Gere will star alongside previously announced leads Ben Stiller and Jessica Chastain, as well as cast members Arian Moayed and Annaleigh Ashford. The eight-episode drama is set up as a limited series for Apple TV+.
According to the show’s logline, “The Off Weeks” centers on Gus Adler (Stiller), a writing professor whose life is thrown into turmoil following a divorce. While he struggles to stay afloat during the “on weeks” when he has custody of his children, Gus finds himself falling dangerously in love during his “off weeks” with Stella West (Chastain), a mysterious woman whose arrival puts his responsibilities and desires on a fatal collision course.
Details about Gere’s character remain under wraps.
The series marks another high-profile streaming role for Gere, following his recent turn in the Paramount+ spy thriller The Agency: Central Intelligence. Over the course of his career, Gere has starred in iconic films such as An Officer and a Gentleman, American Gigolo, Pretty Woman, Primal Fear, and Chicago. He earned Golden Globe nominations for An Officer and a Gentleman and Pretty Woman, and won the award for his performance in Chicago.
Behind the scenes, Stiller executive produces through Red Hour alongside John Lesher. Chastain serves as an executive producer with Kelly Carmichael for Freckle Films. Alissa Nutting (Made for Love, Teenage Euthanasia) is the showrunner and executive producer. Michael Showalter, who also directs and developed the project with Semi-Formal Productions, executive produces with Jordana Mollick. Paul Lee and Gabriel Fisher executive produce for wiip, which also serves as the studio. Additional executive producers include Peter Principato, Allen Fischer, Brian Steinberg, and Dean Bakopoulos.
Production details and a release date for “The Off Weeks” have not yet been announced.
