In a striking Instagram Stories post shared Monday, Jan. 19, Brooklyn accused his parents of interfering in his relationship long before the wedding, claiming the situation reached a breaking point when his mother, Victoria Beckham, allegedly backed out of designing Nicola’s wedding dress at the last moment.
“My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped,” Brooklyn wrote. He added that Nicola was left scrambling to find another gown after Victoria “cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour.”
Brooklyn, 26, and Nicola, 31, tied the knot in April 2022 at her family’s Palm Beach estate. For the ceremony, Nicola ultimately wore a custom Valentino Haute Couture gown — a choice she described at the time as effortless and obvious.
What Nicola Previously Said
The renewed controversy contrasts sharply with Nicola’s earlier comments. Speaking to Variety in November 2022, she denied any feud with her mother-in-law over the dress.
“I was going to wear Victoria Beckham and I really wanted to,” Nicola said then. “But a few months down the line, she realized her atelier couldn’t do it, so I had to pick another dress. That’s where it started, and then people ran with it.”
Brooklyn echoed that sentiment at the time, saying rumors were exaggerated and insisting everyone “gets along.”
Insider Accounts Tell a Different Story
However, in May 2025, a family insider told People that Victoria had initially agreed to make the dress before later telling Nicola’s mother she could no longer do it.
“Nicola was painted as a brat for not wearing Victoria Beckham at the wedding,” the source said, noting that Nicola had frequently worn Victoria’s designs — including to her Lola movie premiere — and regularly attended her fashion shows.
Brooklyn’s recent posts go further, alleging that his parents also tried to pressure him into signing away rights to his name ahead of the wedding, a claim that has intensified public scrutiny of the family rift.
Where the Family Stands Now
Tensions have been evident for months, particularly after Brooklyn and Nicola skipped David Beckham’s 50th birthday celebrations in 2025. Still, sources insist the situation isn’t beyond repair.
“David and Victoria love Brooklyn deeply,” an insider previously told PEOPLE. “They’re hurt and disappointed, but they want to move forward.”
Another source added that David has repeatedly encouraged Brooklyn and Nicola to meet and talk things through. “David loves his kids,” the insider said. “They are his everything.”
As emotions spill into the public eye, Brooklyn’s candid remarks mark his clearest statement yet — and suggest that, for now, the wounds within one of pop culture’s most famous families are still far from healed.
