In an emotional Instagram Stories post shared Monday, Jan. 19, Brooklyn alleged that his parents repeatedly prioritized public image over his personal happiness and failed to support him and Nicola when they needed help.
Brooklyn claimed that he and Nicola “went out of our way for years” to attend family events and meet expectations, but said those efforts were not returned. He cited a specific incident during the Los Angeles wildfires, saying Victoria refused to help when Nicola asked for support to rescue displaced dogs.
“The one time my wife asked for my mum’s support to save displaced dogs during the LA fires, my mum refused,” Brooklyn wrote.
Nicola has long been an advocate for animal welfare. In July 2024, the couple suffered the sudden loss of their dog, Nala, who died just hours after visiting a groomer. Two weeks later, Nicola filed a lawsuit alleging animal abuse and publicly vowed to push for stronger protections for pets.
Brooklyn’s statements come amid long-standing reports of tension between him and his famous parents. Across a six-slide message, he accused David and Victoria of being controlling throughout his life, saying the pressure caused him severe anxiety and distress — particularly leading up to his wedding to Nicola.
“I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life,” Brooklyn wrote. “I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared.”
He added that he and Nicola want a life free from “image, press, or manipulation,” focused instead on privacy, peace, and building a future family together.
Despite Brooklyn’s claims, sources previously told PEOPLE that David and Victoria have continued to support their son and hope to repair the relationship.
“The relationship is definitely not beyond repair,” an insider said last May. “They love and are always there for Brooklyn. They’re just hurt and disappointed that he’s now playing no part in family life.”
Another source told PEOPLE earlier this month that David and Victoria have repeatedly asked Brooklyn and Nicola to meet and talk in hopes of moving forward.
“David loves his kids,” the source said, referring to Brooklyn and his siblings Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. “They are his everything.”
As tensions play out publicly, it remains unclear whether the Beckham family will be able to reconcile — but Brooklyn’s message makes clear that he believes stepping away has brought him peace for the first time in his life.
