The images show Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.
Mescal appears as a young Paul McCartney during the band’s early Liverpool days, seemingly set at the Cavern Club, where the group frequently performed before rising to fame. The other three photos draw inspiration from the band’s later years, particularly the Let It Be era.
Keoghan is shown with Ringo Starr’s familiar mustache, haircut, and patterned shirt from the Let It Be sessions. Dickinson appears in a denim jacket with Lennon’s shoulder-length hair and round glasses, while Quinn wears long hair and gives a serious look as George Harrison.
The photos were released one day after postcard versions of the images were secretly placed around the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, prompting students to share them online. The images quickly went viral, with fans reacting to the casting and physical transformations.
Each actor will headline his own Beatles film. Together, the four movies will explore the personal lives and creative journeys of the Liverpool-born band members who went on to become one of the most influential music groups in history. Mendes has described the project as a “four-film cinematic event,” with all four films debuting simultaneously on April 7, 2028.
This marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd., the company founded by the Beatles, has granted full life-story and music rights for a film project. In a 2024 statement, Mendes said he was honored to tell the band’s story and eager to rethink what a theatrical movie experience can be.
Keoghan has spoken publicly about preparing to play Ringo Starr, including meeting the musician himself. He previously admitted feeling nervous during their first meeting and said he struggled to act naturally around him.
The supporting cast includes Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey Tigrett, Harry Lloyd as producer George Martin, and James Norton as Beatles manager Brian Epstein.
Production on the four films is ongoing ahead of their planned 2028 release.
